Elizabeth Swaney is an American who got into the Hungarian team in the Winter Olympics. Elizabeth wanted to be in the Winter Olympics but she knew she wasn’t good enough to make the American team. Her mother was from Hungary so she could get a Hungarian passport,so she did and tried out for halfpipe skiing.

Elizabeth wanted to be in the Olympics but the American team was too good and way above her level of skiing.  She knew she’d never get in.   And then she realized that because her mom was from Hungary she could get a Hungarian passport and try out for the Hungarian team. She found a sport that Hungary didn’t have anyone in, and tried out for it. This sport was halfpipe skiing. She qualified for the Olympics because she made it in to the top 30, they had less than 30 halfpipe skiers in the event.

I think that Elizabeth Swaney wanted to be in the Olympics and call herself an Olympian. People are saying that she’s a cheat, but I don’t think it’s true. She found a way that she could and found that it wasn’t against the rules.
